The laboratory final will be over the following labs:
- Measurement
- Graphical analysis of data
- Position Vectors
- Acceleration due to the force of gravity
The student should be able to;
- Make measurements
- to within 0.005 mm with the micrometer
- to within 0.002 cm with the vernier caliper
- to within 0.5 mm with the meter stick
- to within 0.05 g with the triple beam balance
- Use significant figures
- identify the number of significant figures
- use the correct number of significant figures
- perform calculations and maintain the correct number of significant figures
- Graphical analysis
- From data make an appropriate graph using excel
- Use graphical analysis techniques to analyze data, obtaining a functional relationship between variables use the "linear" form for straight line y = mx + b
- Make appropriate letter substitutions for x and y variables
- Position Vectors
- Draw a position vector given the (x,y) coordinates
- Add two position vectors graphically (to scale)
- Subtract two position vectors graphically (to scale)
- Using the lab coordinate system identify your location
- Acceleration due to the force of gravity
- Write an appropriate hypothesis
- Use experimental data to test a hypothesis
- Calculate percent error
- Determine 'g' by graphical analysis
- Using a computer and software obtain a graph of velocity vs time for a 'picket fence' dropped through a photo gate
