Courses for Fall 2008

  •  English 110 WB -- College Writing I online [ CRN 10618, 10645]

  •  English 111 -- College Writing II [CRN 11030]

  •  English 127 -- Technical Writing [CRN 10665, 10667]

Textbooks and other remarks

  •  English 110 WB

    • Textbook: College Writing: Special Edition for Kalamazoo Valley Community College. New York: Pearson, 2003.
Since this book is compiled exclusively for KVCC, you will be unlikely to find copies in other bookstores, especially online stores like Amazon, Ebay, Half.com, and others. You can order the book from KVCC's online book service at http://bookstore.kvcc.edu/

    • As with most online courses, this course has a definite schedule (usually two items are due each week) and a significant workload.

    • If you have not taken an online course at KVCC before, you will have to complete an online orientation before you can actually participate in the class. Because KVCC is changing from Educator as a learning management system, you may have to repeat some of the orientation: http://www.kvcc.edu/virtualvalley/

    • You must write one proctored paper. This can be done in KVCC's testing center (room 2210); you can do this even before finishing the online training (bring your KVCC ID card). If you are far from KVCC, email me: we will have to arrange for doing the proctored writing at another institution.

  •  English 111

    • Textbook: Steven Lynn. Literature: Reading and Writing with Critical Strategies. New York: Pearson, 2004.

  •  English 127

    • Textbook: Diana Reep. Technical Writing: Principles, Strategies, and Readings, 6th ed. New York: Pearson, 2006.

A new seventh edition will be out this fall. I plan to use the older sixth edition throughout the 2008-2009 academic year. Both the seventh edition and the quite old fifth edition will work well enough (you will notice some changes).
